The End

The management of my organisation, having had everyone apply for their own jobs over the last 3 months, called everyone in to a meeting yesterday to inform us all that the organisation is shutting and everyone will be out of work.

The amount of resentment this news has created can not be underestimated, to make people suffer the stress of applying for their own work and justifying why they should be kept on, then the day after the submissions had to be in to be told everyone will lose their job is without doubt one of the worst pieces of management I have ever come across.

  1. I certainly agree. People should not be treated this way. Maybe this lack of good management is indicative of the reason(s) the company is going out of business.
    Hang in there.

  2. This stinks. Well, it is certainly true that life isn't always fair. I will be praying for you and everyone else who is losing their job. Sorry to hear this sad news. Talk about having to work through a resentment. This would be a big one for me. God bless.

  4. Hmm yes. Well this makes me think one of two things. That this company has not undergone any redundancy procedures in the last 5-10-?15 years.?
or that this is a public sector company? as the public sector seems to be the only !! industry that remains blissfully unaware of the swathes of redundancy happening all around them in the private sector.
But yes they clearly are very inexperienced in implementing redundancy procedures.
Sorry to hear the bad news and I hope your resourceful, dogged, non conformist alcoholic streak will come up with new ways to raise an income. Best of luck and hope the bad feelings pass sooner rather than later..

  5. This is a terrible way to manage and most insensitive to the workers. I cannot believe that people would have to apply and justify their position only to be let go. What manner of craziness is this? I wish you the best of luck in finding something. I know that you liked that job.

  6. Oh dear. I am so sorry. Can't you occupy the place and run it as a workers' collective or something?

    No, I'm not joking.
